Think You're Ready to Move Out?

Moving Out Tips

Most of can't wait to move out when we hit 18 but are you truly ready to live on your own? Do you have what it takes to move out and not move back home again? Unless you have been ultra responsible with yourself and your money in high school and/or college, the harsh answer is no.

Being ready to move out is more than just wanting to because you're tired of your curfew. Being truly ready to live on your own is less about being a rebel and more about being responsible for yourself, your money, paying your bills, buying your own food, and holding down a job.

If you are finding yourself on the short end of either money or responsibility, it's time to get your priorities in order. We all want our freedom but that freedom comes at a price. Don't become a statistic and have to move back home within two years.

Tips For Hiring a Moving Company

Moving Company Tips

If you are planning to move long distance, either across the state or the country, it might be a good idea to look into hiring a moving company. However, it's going to take a little bit more work than just randomly picking one out of the phone book. Pull out your inner detective to avoid being scammed in any way.

Don't take what a moving company has to tell you at face value. Some unethical companies will tell you a price that you want to hear in order to get your business only to throw in extra 'hidden' charges. Before signing ANY contract, read it thoroughly. If you have any questions, speak up. It's better to feel foolish and have all your facts than to be foolish because you didn't get all the facts.

Living Alone Safety Tips

Safety Tips

Moving out is both exciting and scary. You're no longer a kid and this is your first independent step out into the real world. One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to be safe, especially if you are on your own. By taking a few safety precautions now, you will feel more secure and confident in your new apartment.

Some of these include never keeping a spare set of keys outside of your place. Give a spare key to a trusted neighbor should you ever find yourself locked out. Never announce that you are living by yourself, you never know who is around and if that knowledge will be taken advantage of.

Changing A Light Bulb

Repair Tip #52

Use a rag or cloth when changing out a light bulb. This not only protects your fingers from getting burned during removal but also protects new bulbs from the oils on your skin; which can reduce the overall lifespan of some bulbs.
